Happy Mabon Eve

Or Happy Autumn Equinox Eve or Happy Last Day of Summer/Night Before the First Day of Fall :)

I have a post planned for tomorrow, so I figured I’d do my Autumn post today!

As Persephone prepares to descend into the Underworld and Demeter’s sorrow causes a temporarily barren Earth, I want to take a moment to give thanks.

I am thankful for friends and family to fill my life with joy and love.

I am thankful for the beauty to be found in the Heavens and on Earth.

I am thankful for my health and my continued progression towards a healthier life.

I am thankful for my opportunities and the ability to follow my dreams.

I am thankful for the gift of seeing the world through a child’s eyes but with an adult’s mind.

I am thankful for every step, every breath, every hug, every conversation, every moment of every day of my life.

I wrote this several years ago . . . poem in progress, maybe? or just some free-flowing thought . . .

Red and yellow and brown amongst the evergreens . . . swift moving pale grey clouds travel along with a comforting breeze. Long ago and far away I gathered leaves too . . . found the beauty in simplistic intricacy. I’ve always been in awe of the world around me, knowing it extended far beyond my understanding. Walking through the woods I found my friends . . . a box turtle and a lady bug, some squirrels and a deer, so long as she didn’t see me. I escaped into my surroundings . . . nature never judged me, never belittled me . . . never made me feel not good enough. The echo of the wind through the trees is music played in perfect harmony with the scampering of furry feet. I could sit, a single audience member, listening for hours. An old soul, they said I was. I really wasn’t a typical child . . . as hard as I often tried to be. The “dramas” of those around me always seemed trivial. I tried to get caught up in them, tried to be normal (whatever that is) . . . but it wasn’t me . . . still isn’t . . . though I must admit, I do still try sometimes. But this is what is important in life . . . . watching young faces smile . . . collecting bouquets of leaves . . . so proud of what they have found. And as Autumn surrounds me I remember not only the woman who I am, but the child I once was.
